The way to the Gipfel Restaurant provides breathtaking views.

A leisurely girls' day out with culinary highlight is on today's agenda. We chose the Summit Breakfast in Salzburg's highest-situated restaurant where the Kitzsteinhorn summit is within arm's reach. Our car takes a break, for we travel to Kaprun environmentally-friendly by bus and start our adventure by taking the MK Maiskogelbahn cable car from the Kaprun town center. On our ride, we have plenty of time to chat, relax and enjoy the superb panorama. The 12-km-long cable car route K-ONNECTION is the longest in the Eastern Alps and connects Kaprun via the Maiskogel family mountain with the Kitzsteinhorn. The absolute highlight of the ride up is the 3K K-onnection, world's most modern cable car. Unprecedented technical finesse provides breathtaking panoramic views. Our sight wanders unhindered out of the spacious cabin over the surrounding nature.

Local protagonists

As soon as we reach the Gipfel Restaurant on 3,029 meters, we are greeted warmly with a glass of sparkling wine and led to our table. "Wow, I can't say what blows my mind more – the spectacular view of the Hohe Tauern National Park or the richly laid table", Claudia laughs. Different types of cheese, rolls, spreads, cereals, bacon, sausage, fish, butter, yogurt, scrambled eggs and self-made marmalades – and all come from local producers. While tasting the fresh rolls from the Katschner bakery in Kaprun with butter from the Pinzgau Milch and bacon from the Schultes butcher's in Zell am See, we look closely at the culinary map to check where our breakfast ingredients come from. Again and again, our view wanders over the summits from the panoramic windows. Here is the Grossvenediger, there the Stubacher Sonnblick, and back there, distantly, we are pretty sure to recognize the Watzmann. Our fantastic and sustainable breakfast ends with a mini bundt cake that comes as a nice, sweet surprise.

Breathtaking views from the TOP OF SALZBURG panoramic platform

While being full up, we've not finished feasting our eyes on the superb panorama of the Hohe Tauern National Park and therefore head for the TOP OF SALZBURG panoramic platform. We soak up the sun and decide to postpone going to the movies in the CINEMA 3000 and strolling through the Nationalpark Gallery to our next girls' day out on the Kitzsteinhorn.
