Safely out and about: International FIS rules 

The ten rules of conduct for piste skiers were created by the International Ski Federation and are now the benchmark for the conduct of alpine winter sportsmen and women across the world.


Piste Rules

 

  1. Respect for other skiers and snowboarders: Ski in such a manner that does not endanger or prejudice others.
  2. Control of speed and behavior: Adapt your speed and behavior to the conditions. Ski predictively.
  3. Choice of route: Do not endanger those in front of you.
  4. Overtaking: Overtake leaving sufficient room in all directions.
  5. Entering, starting, and moving upwards: Check both uphill and down before setting off again after stopping.
  6. Stopping: Avoid stopping on narrow parts of the slope and where there is low visibility. In the event of a fall, leave such areas as quickly as possible.
  7. Climbing and descending on foot: Keep on the side of the slope.
  8. Respect for signs: Comply with the information given on the slope signage.
  9. Assistance: Offer assistance in case of an accident.
  10. Identification: In the event of an accident, give your personal details to the ski patrol.
